Diamond Beach (Breiðamerkursandur) is where the icy heart of Iceland meets the Atlantic. Huge chunks of 1,000-year-old ice break away from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, drift through the famous Jökulsárlón lagoon, and are eventually washed back onto the pitch-black shore by the tide. These ‘diamonds’ range from tiny, crystal-clear shards to massive, deep-blue sculptures that glisten against the volcanic sand. Because the ice is constantly melting and moving, no two visits are ever the same. It is a surreal, sparkling graveyard of glaciers and a powerful reminder of our planet’s natural cycles in motion.

Located directly off Iceland’s Ring Road, Diamond Beach is easily reached and shares parking with Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.

Parking fees are 1,126 ISK (approx. 8 EUR / 7 USD).

Diamond Beach is quite popular and can get quite crowded, especially during the busy summer months when Iceland sees the most visitors. Despite this, the beach’s shoreline stretches for several kilometers, providing ample space to explore and find peaceful spots away from the crowds.
